Texas Tech University has a long and storied tradition as an athletics program. The football team is undoubtedly what the university has been known for the longest, probably followed by its basketball program. However, the Red Raiders baseball team has achieved its own amount of success – the team has won the Southwest Conference (in 1995) and the Big 12 (in 1998), and made the College World Series in 2014 and 2016.
The University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) is located on the far northwest side of the city. The campus takes on the characteristics of the former ranchland it once inhabited, with limestone buildings and clusters of live oak trees; this ruggedness has been embodied by the school's still fledgling athletic program.
The city of Frisco in North Texas is one of the fastest-growing in the country. On the outskirts of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the city has been home to the MLS franchise FC Dallas since 2005. Since moving to the area, they have called Toyota Stadium home. The West Texas town of Odessa is known for a few things, namely high school football (it has been immortalized in the book and film Friday Night Lights) and the oil industry, as the town resides atop the crude-rich Permian Basin. However, the city of 118,000 has also earned a reputation for being home to the NAHL's Odessa Jackalopes franchise for the past 20 years.

n March 10th, San Antonio's City Council unanimously approved additional funding for upgrades to the venerable Alamodome in preparation for its hosting of the 2018 NCAA Men's Final Four. In January, the city approved $41 million for the Alamodome; the additional funding brings the total up to nearly $50 million.
Change comes fast and it comes seismically in the world of sports. At the beginning of December 2015, Toyota Field played home to the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League (NASL). By the end of the month the team was dissolved and the new owners of the stadium were Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SSE).
